2024 has been my best year of biking yet. I hit my highest total distance in a year ever, joined several new trips with the awesome Out Our Front Door organization, reached some new personal bests for total mileage in a day, and even rode in my first brevet! I won't cover everything I did this past year, but here are a few highlights:
I hit at least 2000 miles ridden this year. I got a Garmin bike computer partway through the year, which made planning, navigation, and distance tracking easier.
I joined lots of Out Our Front Door bike camping trips, some new and some that I've done before. One of the rides I tried for the first time was SWMI, a 5-day combination of long and short rides, with camping at various sites along the southern shore of lake Michigan. Good people, good food, good times.
Before this summer, I had ridden two centuries (100 mile rides) in my entire life. I rode 6 this summer, including my first solo century!
I joined my first brevet, a 200k event with the Chicago Randonneurs. That also doubled as my longest day of riding ever, totaling 154 miles once I count the 15 miles to and from the starting location.
I hit 40+ MPH going down a hill for the first time!
